What is this insurance designed to do?

This insurance is designed to help you to protect your and other household bills if you become unemployed or if you are unable to work due to an accident or sickness (this is known as a disability).

What type of cover does this insurance provide?

There are three cover options available under this insurance:

What is meant by disability under this insurance?

Disability means that a doctor confirms you have a medical condition that stops you from doing your normal work or any other work you are reasonably able to do. During any period of claim you must be under the care of a doctor. Full details about the definition of disability are provided in Section 1 of the policy document.

What is meant by unemployment under this insurance?

Unemployment means that you are unemployed and not in receipt of a payment from your previous employment or self-employment. Unemployed means that you are entirely without work due to one of the following reasons:

  • If you were employed, your employer has permanently and totally terminated your job due to circumstances beyond your control.
  • If you were , the business you work for has permanently and totally ceased to trade, due to circumstances beyond your control or the control of a director or partner in the business.
  • If you have ceased work to become a full-time carer for a member of your family and are in receipt of Carers Allowance.

Am I eligible for cover under this insurance?

You can apply for this insurance if you meet certain eligibility requirements such as being between the age of 18 and 64 and working for a business that is situated in the UK.

How much can I be covered for under this insurance?

The most you can insure for is your normal monthly mortgage payment (including related life and home insurance premiums) plus optional additional cover up to a further 25%. The most you can insure is £1500 or 75% of your monthly income, whichever is the lower.

What free cover does this insurance provide?

This insurance will provide you with three months free cover from the policy start date.

How many people can be insured under this insurance?

Unlike similar policies, this insurance will allow more than one person to be insured. Full details about the numbers of people who can be covered are provided in Section 5 of the policy document.

When can I claim under this insurance? You can claim under this insurance if you are unable to work for 30 days in a row. You will be paid 1/30th of the monthly benefit for every day you are unable to work for up to 12 months (i.e. you will receive benefit from day 31). Payments are made monthly in arrears, so if your claim is approved your first payment will be made after 60 days.

Does this insurance have any exclusions?

When do claims payments stop under this insurance?

Claims payments will stop under this insurance once you have
received 12 monthly claim payments or the date that one or more
of the following events occur:

  •  Your unemployment or disability ends
  • You fail to meet the conditions for claim payments
  • You reach the end date.

How much does this insurance cost?

The costs of this insurance are expressed as a rate per £100 of monthly benefit. Premiums are collected monthly in advance by and are protected by the direct debit guarantee.

How long does this insurance last?

This insurance has an indefinite term. Cover is issued for an initial period up to the date the first premium is due. It will then continue as you pay each monthly premium until the cover is terminated, for example, when you retire.

Can this insurance be cancelled?

This insurance can be cancelled by you at anytime in writing. The insurers can cancel cover, but this will not affect your rights to receive claims benefits for an event that occurred before the cancellation date.

Who underwrites this insurance?

Who administers this insurance and collects my premium?

This insurance is administered by limited, who will issue all documentation, collect all premiums and pay all claims. Both Aviva and Paymentshield are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
