  I have one of these on my nightstand, and gave one to my elderly mother for hers. A simple wave of the hand turns the light on, and it casts light directly upward, onto the ceiling. It never wakes my husband, but provides me plenty of light to get in and out of the room safely. Plus, if the power goes out, I could always use it like a flashlight to move around the house, if I had to. This light would work well under a cabinet, inside a cabinet, inside a closet, or even in a car. It wasn’t intended for bedside use, but there’s no reason not to use it that way, and it’s a softer light than turning a lamp on. It also might be good for a child’s room, but if you’re using it that way, the child should be old enough to understand that they must not look directly at the light. Or perhaps it could be placed under a desk or table so that it wouldn’t be an issue.

  This light is serving its purpose of getting light into the back corner of our closet but initially we couldn’t keep it stuck to the wall. Love the features – on-off motion sensor, multiple light settings, battery operated, but be warned that you may need to invest in better adhesive.
