Those who take from their mortgage payment or put off other debts to tithe are ROBBING man and not pleasing to God. Thier first commitment is to pay off their debts!
You are right about the no condemnation aspects BUT if you read the article on tithing on this site it shows that the OT principle is not what modern churches teach either – and in the Old Testament it would be disgraceful to steal from the bank or mortgage company and tax payer to give it to the church! So I really do not think God's heart or precepts have changed in this matter except we are no longer under the law but grace.
Thanks, Nicole! My mortgage payment does include taxes, and I'm in a 10 year tax abatement zone (to encourage development), so they're very low. I really do think it's time for me to crack down a bit. It's the credit cards that throw a wrench into the system, but I'm aiming to go into 2010 with a clean slate and a new plan of attack that will include budgeting for certain expenses and acting to curb certain discretionary spending.
Do you have a budget for things like food, entertainment, miscellaneous expenses, etc.?
But it is EASY* to arrive at a conclusion without the “PRESSURE” of having to use the one most precious asset resource GOD* gave us all (OUTSIDE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT) – our minds!!!
British Insurance did a great job when I lost my job. I didn’t have to worry about how to pay the mortgage payments at all for nearly a year. In this time I could concentrate on getting a new job. Simon and the crew at British Mortgage Protection are very helpful and understanding. Their policy is also one of the cheapest around in the UK. 10/10 I give them.
I think if you live in the UK and you have a mortgage, you should consider some form of UK mortgage protection like this. As far as I know British insurance offer the best and most affordable policy available today. Unfortunately i was not aware that I didn’t have to go to my mortgage provider to get cover for mortgage payment protection insurance..I think I paid about twice that for my MPPI insurance. Ah well, at least it kept a roof over my head!
