The Commission would be more credible with respect to “private enforcement” in competition law, had it not tried to shield all information concerning its own competition cases from interested consumer groups. In an important competition case (“COMP/36.571/D-1 Austrian banks”) the Commission had found that banks had formed a cartel and jointly fixed interest rates.
In order to secure damages for consumers, the Austrian consumer organization VKI requested access to the Commission files on that case, so as to be able to put forward specific claims regarding both the illegality of the banks' conduct under competition law and the effects of that conduct. The Commission rejected that request and the consumer organisation had to go to the Court of First Instance to get access (see the case T-2/03 Verein für Konsumenteninformation, judgement of 13 April 2005)

ARMs are keeping the Fed from raising interest rates. If rates went back up. Banks would within 4 to 6 months return back to defaulting and filing bankruptcy. The ARMs should have been forced into Fixed rates this year 2009. To late.
Omg, I know how you feel. I have loads of medical bills due to thyroid problems, and other issues & I don’t qualify for any help. I can’t get health insurance to help cover the cost of test & dr visits because they consider it a preexisting condition. So even if I could afford insurance through my job it would not cover any of my medical expenses. I’ve tried applying for help & was told since I don’t have kids & can work that I don’t qualify for anything.
I think much differently about United Kingdom. I care about my town, but the income taxation is extremely true. Although we have much better health-care than some other countries out there.
