Some state and local officials (Republicans and Democrats) threatened this financial “arrangement” when they began applying state and local consumer protection laws after these officials began receiving more and more complaints from people who had signed on the dotted line, only to later discover that they had been conned, sold a pack of lies, unable to keep paying monthly mortgage payments.

Monthly mortgage payments are the buyers choice not the sellers. The market will dictate. Foreclosures have already lowered house prices because they have increased supply. If left alone the market will correct itself over time. That does not mean people will be homeless just that they will live within their means. That's a choice. I live in a tin roofed shack but have no mortgage. It's my choice. It is not compassionate to enable people to live beyond their means.

The whole point is moot anyway. Obama to the rescue. He's buying votes but exasperating the core problem.

British Insurance did a great job when I lost my job. I didn’t have to worry about how to pay the mortgage payments at all for nearly a year. In this time I could concentrate on getting a new job. Simon and the crew at British Mortgage Protection are very helpful and understanding. Their policy is also one of the cheapest around in the UK. 10/10 I give them.

Ryan,

I really like this idea. But I have some concerns. The first one has to do with relying on the individuals receiving the assistance to make their mortgage payments on time. I would assume that the investors who are contributing the funds for the down payment will be guaranteeing the mortgage, as most banks would not offer a mortgage to someone who is living on government assistance.

Furthermore, If one of the homeless individuals misses a payment, it would be up to the mortgagors of the property to make the payment. These potential defaults on the mortgage payments would detrimentally impact the mortgagor/investors credit rating. These would be just a few hurdles to overcome when implementing this solution.

I think if you live in the UK and you have a mortgage, you should consider some form of UK mortgage protection like this. As far as I know British insurance offer the best and most affordable policy available today. Unfortunately i was not aware that I didn’t have to go to my mortgage provider to get cover for mortgage payment protection insurance..I think I paid about twice that for my MPPI insurance. Ah well, at least it kept a roof over my head!
