This is really only true if you largely base your mortgage and expenses on the income of only one parent, i.e. you can make your mortgage payment on one income. Otherwise, you’re in the exact same position that a single income family would be in. And if the sole earner loses his or her job, either parent can find stop gap work to pay expenses. Actually if the sole earner loses his or her job, he or she can collect unemployment while the other goes to work. I’m not saying one or two incomes is better or worse. I’m just pointing out that the situation is more complicated than you stated.

I think if you live in the UK and you have a mortgage, you should consider some form of UK mortgage protection like this. As far as I know British insurance offer the best and most affordable policy available today. Unfortunately i was not aware that I didn’t have to go to my mortgage provider to get cover for mortgage payment protection insurance..I think I paid about twice that for my MPPI insurance. Ah well, at least it kept a roof over my head!
